The Great War

King Albert I was King of the Belgians, remembered for his strong leadership throughout The Great War. He personally took charge of his forces in the small unoccupied area of Belgium, near Furnes.

Initially the Royal Family stayed at De Panne, but when this became part of the English sector, which fortified the exhausted Belgian army, they moved to Saint Flora in De Moeren.

Here King Albert received all strategic important visitors : the Prince of Wales, the King of Italy, French Marshals and many others. Historical decisions have been taken in “De Moeren” region.
